02-19 -03: Neal Asher News, MORE Covers for the HPL Comic Books You'll Never See

Neal Asher News

Neal Asher writes with this great news. If you haven't read 'The Skinner', now's your chance to do so. It made the Locus list for last year, and to my mind should be up for one of several awards. I'll turn this over to Neal:

Hi Rick,

here's some news just in: The Skinner (mass-market) is going to be released early here as it is going into a W H Smiths promotion!

ps. Did I tell you about my short story being taken for 'Year's Best Science fiction #8'?

I'll be looking for for Neal's story in this upcoming anthology. You should be looking for 'The Line of Polity'. I'll have a column covering that and all the other notable SF that I've heard about for this year soon -- as soon as I get done with the news!

MORE Covers for the HPL Comic Books You'll Never See

Peter Von Sholly is an incredibly talented guy and huge devotee of Lovecraft. He's also very generous with his images and sent me some more for your delectation.

Had I read this when I was a kid, I would have been into Lovecraft a lot earlier than 13!

I don't know about you, but I built more Aurora models than I can remember as a kid. One Easter, my parents gave me the Submarine Seaview. Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea was one of the earliest corrupting influences on my young mind.

The Rat Fink models always gave me the creeps when I was a kid. I think that the creep might have been accellerated had Cthulhu been in the mix!

Peter also sent me a link to his images for the CI versions of all the Lovecraft Classics. I offer this link to you -- check out the supremely creepy 'Dreams in the Witch House' cover.

02-17 -03: Covers for the HPL Comic Books You'll Never See, The Fortean William Gibson

Covers for the HPL Comic Books You'll Never See

A friend from Iliad Books sent me a link to some covers for the Unpublished Comic Books based on the writings of H. P. Lovecraft by Pete Von Sholly. His website is full of wonderful covers he's done for comic books. Illiad books has a good selection and has already just about claimed $100.00 of my money. Von Sholly gave me permission to publish these covers he's done for adaptations of H. P. Lovecraft that have not yet seen the light of day. Not sure if they ever will beyond these pages. Alas...check out both Von Sholly's website and Iliad books. Don't buy the book I want before I accumulate the money to do so.

The first science fiction I think I ever read was a Classics Illustrated version of 'War of the Worlds'. Now I own a first edition of 'Year of the Comet'.

The Fortean William Gibson

An observant contributor to the Fortean mailing list sent this link to Gibson's blog. My wife is reading his latest now and really enjoying it. My picky friend Jan read it in six and one-half hours -- a little over one sitting.
